Get Detailed Information
Removable dentures supported by a small number of implants (2-4) have been used for many years. Complete edentulous dentures, patients must have at least one removable denture in the upper or lower jaw. Continuing bone loss after tooth loss and related aesthetic, health and function problems cause edentulous patients to be implant candidates.
Bone loss in the first year after tooth extraction is 10 times greater than in subsequent years. After multiple tooth extractions, bone loss of 2-3 mm usually occurs in the first six months.
As the bone melts, the muscle attachments come to the same level as the top of the bone. Since bone loss will occur when expected, it is important to place implants before bone loss occurs. Therefore, completely edentulous patients should be informed about the necessity of dental implants in preserving bone volume, masticatory muscle activity, aesthetics and psychological health.
Melting of the jaw bone
If you do not have more than one tooth in your mouth or if the teeth you have do not have a good bone-gum connection, the cells that stimulate the formation of the jawbone have also disappeared. This is because your body no longer thinks it needs to support your jawbone. Even if you are missing one tooth, this situation causes melting in our jawbone, collapse in our lips, and wrinkles in the chin and skin area. In complete edentulism, this bone loss is greater, deformation and lines occur in the skin of the chin and lower face area, meaning that in addition to losing the chewing function, patients also experience a great loss in terms of aesthetics and may look older.
The biggest reason why implants are a great option for people with complete tooth loss is that they help protect your jawbone and prevent bone loss. When a removable prosthesis, which is an older method and called a total denture, is used instead of implant treatment for people with complete tooth loss, bone loss continues and even research has shown that the rate of bone loss increases. In addition, eating with these prostheses is not easy at all. Since it only receives support from soft tissues during chewing, not every food can be chewed comfortably.
Health Begins in the Mouth!
After implants are placed in the case of complete edentulism, you will be more comfortable, more confident and have a better quality of life in general. With teeth placed on implants, speaking is easier, smiling is a pleasure and eating is not a problem.
