Get Detailed Information
Smiling with white teeth is an easy procedure that we all want and takes one session when done with laser. For a clean mouth and healthy smile, first the teeth are cleaned and then laser teeth whitening is done. Whitening is an aesthetic procedure that takes about 45 minutes in the chair and does no harm.
In general, in order to whiten your teeth in one day, the teeth should not be stained or too dark. Since the color of the teeth varies from person to person, sometimes whitening can take 2-3 sessions. After laser whitening, it is possible for the color of the teeth to remain permanently white.
For permanent teeth whitening, consuming large amounts of coffee, tea, cola and cigarettes is not recommended as they cause discoloration.
Why do teeth become yellow and dark?
The color of teeth varies from person to person depending on the density of the protein layer inside the teeth. The most common color change that occurs later is that the color of the teeth darkens with age. Consumption of substances that stain teeth (coffee, tea, cola, cigarettes, etc.), impacts to the teeth, old dentures, coatings and fillings can also cause color change. Using antibiotics (such as tetracycline) or excessive fluoride consumption during the development of the teeth also cause dark colors in the teeth.
When and to whom can whitening be applied?
If your teeth are dark in color, have yellow, gray or brown tones, or have stains on them, an examination and diagnosis will determine whether they are suitable for whitening. Teeth whitening is a problem-free process in a healthy mouth. It is a safe solution for a whiter and more natural smile.
Is Teeth Whitening Safe?
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes! According to research, teeth whitening is extremely effective and safe if done under control. The color of the teeth can be lightened up to 6 tones. There is no harmful effect on the teeth and gums. Sometimes there may be slight cold and hot sensitivity in the teeth, but this situation completely resolves when the treatment is done intermittently or stopped.
How long is the application period?
Generally, teeth start to whiten with the first application. However, to achieve the ideal appearance, the application should be continued for 10-14 days if done at home, and at least 4-5 sessions if done in the clinic.
How is the Whitening Process Performed?
Whitening It is the process of removing discolorations in the structure of the teeth (enamel and dentin layer). There are currently two different whitening methods known. The first method is a method that the patient can apply on his own, the steps are as follows
- The dentist takes measurements of your mouth and prepares thin rubber molds that you can place on your teeth.
- The patient places medication into a special mold prepared for him/her and wears this mold on the teeth to be whitened for at least 30-45 minutes a day,
- The treatment is completed within 1-2 weeks on average.
The second method is whitening performed by a physician in the clinic, which is applied as follows:
- The bleaching agent is placed on the tooth by a physician who is experienced in this procedure.
- A laser or ultraviolet light source is held on the relevant tooth for a certain period of time.
- The results are observed immediately after the procedure is completed. Although the home treatment is more effective than the two methods, the choice depends on the degree of discoloration, how quickly the treatment is desired to be completed, and the doctor's opinion.
Do teeth return to their original state after whitening?
The teeth will not return to their previous color and will always be whiter than before. However, depending on the patient's habits and oral care, a reinforcement treatment may sometimes be required after a year or two.
Habits such as constant coffee, smoking, and red wine can also cause teeth to lose their whiteness. These habits cause teeth to lose their whiteness faster than normal. This requires brushing your teeth immediately after consuming beverages such as tea, coffee, and wine.
