Causes and treatment of tooth inflammationInflammation occurs when deep decay reaches the nerve, causing bacteria and their toxins to damage the blood vessels and nerves there. Bacterial growth and swelling further exacerbate the inflammation. As a result, the inflammation spreads beyond the tooth, from the root apex. This causes severe pain. Later, the inflammation can spread to the point of facial swelling. As the inflammation spreads, it damages surrounding tissues and begins to erode the jawbone.
Symptoms of Dental Infection
- Swelling in the mouth or on the face
- Severe and persistent toothache
- Pain when pressure is applied to the tooth
- Feeling of tooth extension
Causes and Treatment of Dental Inflammation
First, anesthesia is applied to ensure that the patient does not get hurt. Then, the decay is cleaned and the nerve of the tooth is reached. After reaching the pulp, the accumulated inflammation inside the tooth is released and thus the pressure that causes the severe pain is relieved.
If the nerve is completely dead or if it is possible to intervene without pain, the nerve and tissue residues in the canal are cleaned and removed. In this way, the bacterial focus causing the inflammation is destroyed.
If the nerve cannot be removed due to pain, a substance that kills the nerve is placed inside the tooth and the tooth is covered with a filling. The next day, the nerve will be completely dead thanks to this substance, making it easier to work.
After the tissue residues in the canal are cleaned, an attempt is made to reach the root tip so that the inflammation at the root tip can be expelled more easily. The tooth canal should be widened to the root tip. This process allows both the inflammation to be expelled more easily and the canal walls where bacteria settle are cleaned.
Various disinfectant substances are applied into the canal for several sessions to eliminate bacteria and reduce inflammation. After it is understood that the inflammation has stopped growing and the inflammation from the root tip has stopped, the canal is filled with a special filling material up to the root tip.
A temporary filling is applied and waited for a while. After waiting a few weeks, the top filling is applied and the treatment is completed.
