Dentist anxiety It is common and can affect people of all ages. This anxiety dentist It can range from being nervous in the chair to developing a serious dentist phobia.
You may be anxious because you are not well informed about dental treatment or because you are physically close to someone you don’t know very well. The most common is having unpleasant experiences at the dentist as a child. There are a few things you (and we as a team) can do to help you overcome your anxiety.
To overcome this anxiety, it will always help to have open communication and talk about your concerns. It is important to remember that you are in professional hands when you are anxious!
If we can find out what is causing your stress, we can be very helpful. We can have specific solutions for different causes of anxiety. The biggest fear is the fear of having to repeat procedures or hearing “horror stories” during dental treatment. Unless it is an emergency, we usually do not start treatment on the first visit. It is very important for us that you have all the information you need to maintain or regain your oral health, so the first visit is to assess your dental condition, let you know what conditions are present, and give you information about what you want to know. We find treatment options, explain them in detail, and let you think about them.
When you come for treatments we always explain what we will do, what you will feel, hear and see. We will always pause when you want.
If you feel your phobia is so severe that you cannot even think of approaching us, we can refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist.
Laser assisted gum treatment
As with many treatments, gum disease treatment is a partnership between the dentist and the patient. Our role is to diagnose and inform you about the causes of the disease, to look after your teeth and gums to minimise further problems, to carry out any other treatments you may need, and to provide any preventative treatments needed to prevent further disease progression. Laser provides great support in gum disease treatment as we fight against infection.
We use traditional instruments and ultrasonic vibrating instruments to eliminate grooves and concave surfaces on the root surface to make it less prone to plaque accumulation.
The laser is then used to remove any remaining debris, ensuring that the entire root surface is microscopically clean, which also increases the desired effect after the treatment. Not only mechanical debris, but also the chemical by-products of the bacteria that cause inflammation in the gums are removed at this stage. As a final step, it increases the healing potential of the gums during the healing process.
After these treatments, which are performed in one session, we must wait for the balance to be restored and the gums to reattach or the tissues to regenerate. If more than one area needs to be treated for these steps, more than one session may be required. Additional sessions may be required to perform further disinfection and stop the early colonization of bacteria.
What is your duty?
All you need to do is clean the surfaces of your teeth. Sounds simple, right? To do this, you will need a normal toothbrush, an interdental brush and dental floss. These will be prescribed and indicated for you individually, depending on your dental anatomy, the condition of your teeth and more. These are the minimum cleanings. You can add mouthwash and mouthwashes to clean more to prevent decay and gum disease.
Smoking is a risk factor for gum disease, oral cancer, and many other diseases. You can prevent the negative consequences of smoking, but if you already smoke, quitting may be the best gift you can give yourself.
It is also well known that smoking reduces the success of gum disease treatment, although laser treatment has a higher success rate. A smoke-free mouth certainly has a good chance of healing.
Early detection and treatment of gum disease can help you save your teeth and smile for a lifetime.
