Types of Implants; Dental implant types are classified according to the material used, the support it provides to the prosthesis and its relationship with the bone tissues. We can classify implant types under three main groups. These are,
Types of Dental Implants According to Their Relationship with the Bone:
– Endodontic implants – Endosteal – Intraosseous implants – Intramucosal implants – Subperiosteal implants – Transmandibular implants
Endosteal (Intra-bone) Implant Types
Today, the most commonly used in dentistry surgery are endoosseous (intra-bone) implants. These are the most frequently applied. When a dental implant is applied to the inside of the jawbone, it is called an endossosis or endosteal implant.
The part that has been properly osteointegrated and positioned inside the bone tissue is called “fixture”. Today, readily available endosseous implants are divided according to their shapes; - Cylindrical implant - Screw implant - It is also called blade implant.
Types of Subperiosteal Implants
Subperiosteal implants are implants prepared by taking measurements from the bone that has been exposed as a result of surgical procedures. Dental implant types made of metal alloys are thin. They are placed directly on the bone under the periosteum.
They have posts that rise directly from the gum into the mouth. These types of dental implants sit on the alveolar jaw bones in a saddle style. They distribute the chewing-related crutch to the entire bone. Dental implant models placed on the bone provide a capsule-like function with connective tissue support.
